Thinking of healthy lunch box ideas for kids can be daunting, especially when you have a picky eater. The school year started a few weeks ago and the same turkey sandwich is already getting boring… To help you (and your kids!) avoid lunchbox boredom, here are some simple ideas to spice up your child’s lunch box:

Change the Bread: Instead of sliced bread, you can try whole wheat pita bread, bagels or tortilla wraps. For a real change, try packing crackers or breadsticks separately from the filling. Your child then assembles the crackers and filling into sandwiches, or dips the breadsticks in. Great fun!

Try a salad: Pasta salad in your child’s lunchbox is a balanced meal in one bowl. Serve your child’s favorite pasta shape with chopped pieces of chicken and vegetables. Experiment with different ingredients to see what combinations your child likes best, and make sure to try rice salad too, this is a hit at Kidfresh!

Kids love dip! Prepare diced or julienned produce to go along with a small container of dipping sauce. Or simply pack easy-to-carry fruit and vegetables like bananas, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, and grapes. Low fat yogurt and sour cream, hummus, and tzatziki are all healthy dip choices. You could serve this along with a hardboiled egg to make sure your child gets all the protein he needs!

Don’t have time to do this every day? Think about our Kidfresh meals! For instance, pop our Wagon Wheels Mac and Cheese in the microwave in the morning, heat it up and pack it in a thermos – it will stay hot until lunch time!

Isn’t it a great way to vary your kids’ lunch menus? Not to mention they will eventually be able to eat something warm and nutritious during the cold winter months! Enjoy!
